With many parties choosing to resolve disputes in fora outside of the courtroom, Reid and Riege attorneys practicing in the alternative dispute area represent clients in arbitration proceedings and mediation. They have substantial experience in presenting a broad range of cases to arbitrators and mediators including those involving business governance and ownership (of limited liability companies and corporations), and contract, employment, environmental, fiduciary and intellectual property disputes.
One attorney practicing in the area of alternative dispute is a member of the American Arbitration Association’s panel of commercial arbitrators and he has been selected by parties to numerous disputes in matters before that tribunal and privately.
- Represented a manufacturer of medical devices in a breach of contract dispute as claimant in an arbitration proceeding, successfully defeating the respondent’s motion for summary disposition. Following the ruling, the case settled in a separate mediation conducted while the arbitration case was pending.
- Represented a physician shareholder in a dispute against another shareholder in a medical practice over issues arising from the ownership and governance of the physicians’ medical practice. The case settled in a separate mediation conducted during the pendency of the arbitration case.
- Represented a distributor of power equipment as a claimant in a contract dispute before an arbitrator, recovering damages and attorneys’ fees for the client against the respondent who breached the contract.
- Represented a lender as a respondent in an arbitration proceeding where a claimant homeowner made allegations of lender liability arising from a loan to construct a pool, resulting in a finding of no liability by the lender.
